Ahaha, let’s see. I don’t ship them as together or anything (I can’t do that for any slash pairing in RvB, at least in terms of canon, just fanon and AU), but I think they make an excellent pair of bros. Wash is concerned with regulations and Being A Good Soldier, at least in Season 9, and Maine does whatever the hell he wants. That’s why, I think, Wash’s name is on the board and Maine’s isn’t — he’s bigger and stronger, but he takes unnecessary risks and gets himself in trouble (see: episode 10).

I think they’d get less close once the Project started falling apart and they both got A.I., and in the Recollection trilogy Wash doesn’t quite know how to deal with going after someone who used to be his bro but is now obviously pants-on-head crazy. At the same time, Maine has some level of awareness of who exactly he’s up against and keeps leaving Wash unhurt. It’s only when he’s given a trigger (such as the Director telling him to kill Wash or when he finally gets Epsi-Tex) that he’s willing to take him out. Wash, in turn, doesn’t kill him despite having a lot of chances to do so, possibly not wanting to see him end up like that.

They make a good team, though, no matter what issues get in the way in Recreation/Revelation. What it boils down to is understanding that who’s in control isn’t black and white, it’s more about what they can get from each other in working together.

tl;dr: why has there not been a single Wash/Maine scene in Season 9 so far. seriously for a relationship that makes up a good chunk of the series it’s absent past one line. what gives.
