connecticut: no. we don’t. that’s the point. we don’t all make mistakes. some of us very specifically make mistakes and others don’t seem to make any mistakes at all.
washington: connie, come on —
connecticut: that’s why they’re doing all this! these missions, the rankings! they’re drawing a line between us, wash, and you’re either on one side of that line, or you’re on the other. and it’s getting pretty goddamn clear which side i’m on.
washington: no one thinks like that. we’re a team.
connecticut: i’m not talking about you guys. i mean them. him.
washington: the director? he’s given us everything. he’s helping us.
connecticut: helping us? wake up. wake the fuck up. he’s filtering us. this is a selection process, wash. i don’t know for what, but if you’re not at the top of that board, you’re not worth anything to him.
washington: you’re just overreacting. you’ve always been hard on yourself, connie.
connecticut: not as hard as they are. not nearly as hard as they’re going to be.
connecticut: and don’t call me connie. makes me sound like a fucking kid. call me c.t.
connecticut: oh, and that line i talked about? you better hurry up and figure out what side you’re on, agent washington. before they figure it out for you.

They can’t be serious. They cannot be serious.
It’s easy, reflexive, to channel his rage onto the Director and the Councillor and every higher-up involved in Project Freelancer but now, Wash has a special place for the Chairman, too.
He probably thinks he’s being clever and priming himself for a success in capturing the Epsilon unit (they were partnered together before, they worked flawlessly together before) or killing two birds with one stone (stick the two crazies together and maybe they’ll take themselves out) but Wash would like to think the universe is doing this on purpose, just to fuck with him.
He accepts the assignment and doesn’t let anything show, no trembling fingers or erratic breathing or crawling into a corner. Nothing to show that he cannot do this.
He can’t work with the warped, lifeless husk of someone he used to know. He can’t deal with potentially facing Epsilon again. Prison was a welcome relief from the shitstorm of the world and the Chairman is pulling him out of the shelter and back into the hurricane.
