RvB Drabble: Flight
Her job description had been clear from the start. She’d signed on to pilot things. She didn’t care about the company, about the Director, about the freelancers. She cares about her ships, her planes, her babies. She cares about the steel and engines and the roar and the feel of flying. She cared about being the best pilot, and she cared that everyone knew it. She knew she had more in common with the freelancers than either of them cared to admit, but it didn’t matter because common ground was not a cockpit and friends were not a throttle.
So when she saw it in their actions, in their stances, sometimes even in their faces, when she saw the freelancers break down, one by one, she could ignore it. Because her ships worked. Her engines roared. Her controls beckoned for her expert hands to push them to their limits.
She continued to serve Project Freelancer, turning a blind eye to the commands from On High, to the Director and the rumors of AIs, to the deteriorating mental state of her passengers. Her ships worked, hummed, purred and growled like they always had and sometimes she could close her eyes and pretend that nothing had changed, and that was enough.
#479er is amazing #also odd question but is she also the voice in command that Wash talks to in Recovery One and the Recollection series? Their voices sound…#and if she isn’t I might’ve just headcanon’d myself #but confirmation one way or the other would still be nice so I know how crazy this idea is? #also i bet 479er and carolina got along purely because it was carolina and she was first in flight and 479er is a geek #totally legit in my head
This is actually confirmed, and Burnie’s said that we’re going to see more of her next season. She does have the same voice actress.
That aside: hnnngh this fic. I love the pilot :( I really hope she gets a name next season.
